Yesterday I planned a trip to the former site of the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and also to the new Ground Zero construction site. I was able to see the new WTC1 on my last trip, but the memorial was only open this time (the museum is expected to open on September 11, 2012 with a very large exhibition)
World Trade Center Memorial
It was a depressing feeling for me – when I was younger, visiting the observation deck was always one of the first things on the NYC bucket list. Now you’re standing where almost 3,000 people were killed at Ground Zero in a very short space of time.
World Trade Center tickets
You will need tickets to visit the memorial, which you can order online in advance and receive by email at no cost. Then just show your tickets at the entrance, go through security (like at the airport) and you can enter the memorial.
In my opinion, the 9/11 Memorial is really very successful and a must-visit in New York, as you can see from the photos. I did it once in the morning and went back in the afternoon because I wanted to see the lighting.
View of the One World Trade Center Observatory
In the future, you will not only be able to marvel at the impressive fountains as footprints of the Twin Towers, but also enjoy a new view over the city. The observatory is still under construction and will certainly be one of the top sights in New York again.
Update: The observatory in my pictures has now opened and you can find suitable tickets here.
